Room Shift

Yesterday our doctor surprised us by telling that I am to be moved from isolation room to a normal private ward. With 80% of my WBCs being neutrophils (infecting-fighting WBC) doctor feels I can weather the hostile environment of a normal room. Today the isolation room would be occupied by another patient who is in dire need of it. Hospital has only two such rooms.
I couldn't be happier by this move. I get to see more people now and people who aren't masked. Surbhi and Papa don't have to inconvenience themselves by putting surgical gown every time they enter my room. I hear more hustle-bustle in the corridor which makes me feel closer to reality. And most importantly I can meet my family members. Yay! Another week or so and I should be able to invite more people to my room.
Having said that my sojourn in isolation room wasn't half as bad. The room was peaceful and the folks taking care of me - doctors, nurses and maids - were excellent.
They just collected blood few hours back. Let's see what WBCs have in mind today :).

  1. Hi Kartik,

Wonderful news. While you would definitely feel less isolated now, one wonders if there was anything worth gaping at behind the masks and the gowns of hospital staff! Stray nurse could be an exception though! People at large and more faceless and masked than the real masks you saw! Have a grrreat week ahead and let the count overtake vegetable price rise. And your mention of so many bookks and movies makes me conscious of what I have nor read and watched! Good luck from us all.

  2. Dear Kartik kaka

Congrates for shifting to another base. let the WBC fire a homerun and you run for the home.

share the same feelings with Deepak kaka you made us feel what we are missing. Can you please let me know the timings of "Who's line is it, anway?" as this was the first ever programme i used watch along with Mr. Donahue (hope have written correctly)

  3. Welcome back to the world of Chaos Kartikbhai! :)

Oh I used to love "Whose line is it anyways?". Greg and Ryan used to be my favourites! Do they still come? We play another game at home, "Who has the remote anyways?", and I am normally never ever the winner. :( You know Kartikbhai I picked up "The Fountainhead" to read again after 14 years. Makes more sense to me today but, I still find it a little bizzare.

  5. Dear Milind, You can see "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" everyday (yes everyday :) on Warner Bros. channel.

I do remember Donahue! Wasn't it a talk show like Oprah's?

Thanks for your wishes as always :)

  7. Ha ha Devangi good one regarding remote control :). I think that would pretty much be the story of any home. Yes I recollect you having picked that book at such a young age and telling me how bizarre it was. I would like to read it some day.

  10. CheerS! Way to go...

I just wonder how come these WBCs started behaving like a program on Linux (follow ./configure ; make ; make install) and not Windows(Build All) where the compilation life is honky-dory.

I have always struggled in ./configure - where dependencies have to be resolved/install missing packages etc. Next, do make -- resolve errors/warnings. And finally make install - you good to go types. And once you are thru with configure and make, rest assured. The program is rock solid!

In analogy, the WBCs did spend some time in configure and compile to take care of missing packages, errors and warnings. Now, they are ready to perform make install.

And I believe they are in install phase :-). So, you would be ROCK SOLID! And ready to rock very soon.

  12. So the hospital stay is nearing its end ! must be feeling like back to reality. yes but isolation does work wonders sometimes & it does build up your inner strength. gives you a lot of time to introspect & put your thoughts & priorities in true perspective.

Devangi The fountainhead is a powerful work of fiction . Just enjoy it as a fiction & you might not find it so bizzare!

  15. Kartikbhai ...I actually saw a couple of episodes of 'Whose line is ...' recently ...it is i believe 'improvisational' comedy ! :) You havent read any of the Jane Austens ??? Thats terrible :) No Jane Eyre ..No Emma ? I saw this film with Reese Witherspoon in it ..Vanity Fair. Liked it. If you like comedy - u may enjoy 'The George Lopez Show' ..youtube has episodes ...they have some bawdy jokes ...but it is hilarious !
